Quarterly energy cap update won’t reduce bills, says Ofgem

A quarterly update of the energy price cap will not lead to a reduction in customers’ bills, said the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem).

The regulator earlier said yesterday they are looking to move towards quarterly updates on the energy price cap rather than every six months.

This new plan could potentially mean that energy prices could go up as many as four times a year.

However, Ofgem says that this will “benefit consumers overall.”

Tameside local election results 2022

Tameside remained red after the May 5, 2022 elections but Conservatives gained two seats at Hyde Godley and Ashton Hurst wards. Of the 57 seats, 49 are with Labour, seven with Conservatives, and one with Green.

Voter turnout dropped by nine per cent to 28% since the May 2021 elections. Polling stations had opened at 7am and closed at 10pm. One seat in each of the 19 wards in Tameside was up for grabs. There are a total of 57 seats in the council.

Mum who feared chemo made her infertile gives birth after life-saving treatment

A woman who feared she would be infertile following chemotherapy was able to conceive naturally and give birth – after receiving new cancer treatment in Manchester.

Sammy Gray, 26, is one of the first CAR-T therapy patients in the UK to give birth after the new treatment saved her life.

She described son Walter as “our little miracle” and said: “If it wasn’t for the CAR-T treatment at The Christie neither of us would be here now.”

Missing dog back in owner's arms after four days trapped down 12ft mineshaft

Olive the Labrador had an emotional reunion with her owner after being trapped down a 12ft old mineshaft for four days.

Jo Belton and daughter Charlotte declared the two-year-old dog missing when she vanished during a countryside walk on the outskirts of Sheffield.

Three black women have opened up about their experiences of racism in the workplace after a report revealed that more than half of female senior executives of their ethnicity resigned due to the issue.

Manchester Council to switch to UK’s Corona Energy from Russian Gazprom

Manchester City Council will cut ties with Russia-linked Gazprom Energy next week – and link with a UK supplier.

The contract between the council and Gazprom expires at the end of March 2022.
